Trained personnel provide full-time protection. The department’s up-to-date vehicles are in radio contact with all county law enforcement agencies as well as the Coldwater Fire Department and the Coldwater branch of the Mercer County Emergency Medical Services Squad.

Coldwater’s Volunteer Fire Department is manned by 24 trained firemen and headquartered on N. 2nd Street. Equipment includes three pumper/tanker units and a mini-pumper. They also have a Jaws of Life tool to rescue people in vehicles. The building and equipment are owned by the Village. Protection extends to Butler Township under a contract with the Township Trustees. The insurance rate classification for Coldwater is equal to or better than many paid fire departments in the state.

The Village of Coldwater has a facultative lagoon Waste Water Treatment Plant. The plant receives an average of 500,000 gallons of waste water each day. The plant discharges several times a year to Hardin Creek. There are 3 lift Stations in the Collection System that operate daily including the main lift station at the plant. During wet weather events the plant can see up to 4,000,000 gallons a day.

The Village of Coldwater Water Plant produces an average of 400,000 gallons of water per day. The source of the water is from several wells that provide the raw water to the plant. The plant removes Iron and Manganese from the raw water. It also uses an ionic exchange process to soften the water. There is a 300,000 gallon storage tank, a 250,000 gallon tower and a 500,000 gallon tower that provide for storage and maintain an even pressure to the distribution system.
